Dansville CSD is seeking highly qualified candidates to apply for the following position.

The Automotive Mechanic performs skilled mechanical work under the general supervision of the Shop Manager.  This work may be performed in the field as well as the garage.  Automotive Mechanics are characterized by their ability to analyze and diagnose the cause of breakdowns and faulty mechanical performance and then perform major mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs on the following, but not limited to: engines (propane, gas, and diesel), drive lines, chassis, brakes, steering, and accessories.  The vehicles and equipment include school buses, passenger vehicles, tractors, lawn care equipment, and other District-owned equipment.  The Automotive Mechanic may be assigned to supervise others in the absence of the Shop Manager.  Does related work as required.

 

Typical Work Activities:

  • Analyzes and diagnoses problems using operators' information, reports, observations, test equipment, technical manuals and bulletins;
  • Maintains propane, gasoline, and diesel engines and all supporting systems;
  • Repairs, maintains, and adjusts electrical systems, including ignitions, switches, generators, voltage regulators, alternators, starters, and lights;
  • Repairs, maintains, and adjusts chassis elements such as steering, front end, brakes, axles, changes tires, changes oil and filters, and lubricates as needed;
  • Repairs and maintains snow and ice control equipment;
  • Repairs and maintains vehicles and equipment in the field;
  • Makes welding repairs and fabricates some new pieces;
  • Works as a motor equipment operator when directed;
  • Road tests vehicles;
  • Installs glass in vehicles;
  • Cleans equipment and work area;
  • Keeps records regarding work performed;
  • Operate commercial motor vehicles as directed; and
  • Performs other duties as directed.
Job Qualifications
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: 
Thorough working knowledge of the practices, techniques and terminology of the trade; demonstrated ability to analyze, diagnose and repair difficult mechanical, electrical and hydraulic problems on heavy automotive and other equipment; ability to read and understand technical maintenance manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; ability to weld and braze; ability to keep accurate records; physical condition commensurate with demands of the position; ability to lift 50 pounds.  Must possess a NYS Driver’s License; will train for a CDL Class B school bus license.
